what we do

what we do

ADM-HEA is the Higher Education Academy Subject Centre for Art, Design and Media.  We were established in 2000 to support and enhance learning and teaching in higher education art, design, media theory and practice, the history of art and design and cultural studies subjects.

We work with people in further and higher education institutions, subject associations and professional bodies, to explore and identify opportunities to develop effective practices in learning and teaching in art, design and media.

Our aim is to enhance the student learning experience by:

  • creating and supporting a network of people involved in the delivery of higher education in art, design and media subjects
  • facilitating the sharing of knowledge across the network and forging and brokering links with professional bodies and subject associations
  • promoting and sharing good practice in learning and teaching

How do we achieve these aims?

The network
We have developed and continue to expand our network of colleagues.  The network is supported by regional meetings where colleagues can meet and share and develop ideas. We encourage and facilitate further communication and debate through our website, newsletter and JISCMAIL service.

Events
We organise, support, and disseminate information about a range of events designed to enhance the student experience in art, design and media subjects often in collaboration with subject associations and other professional bodies.  Activities range from regional workshops to national seminars and conferences.

Projects
We develop, support and fund collaborative research and development projects and the outcomes are shared across the network. The Subject Centre provides funding for small projects within colleges and universities and contributes to larger scale projects in collaboration with national agencies.

Resources
To supplement the research and development projects,  we are drawing on the experience and creativity of colleagues to develop a collection of resource reviews, case studies, and pedagogic research. These resources are shared across the community via our website and newsletter.
