The 2007 Annual Forum will be formed around discussions of visual analysis, communication literacy and research. This growing area of debate cuts across the arts, design and media practice subjects, media and communications and history of art and design.

Forms of visual analysis and research are common in all areas and there is a growing interest in the applications of visual literacy and communication. The ADM-HEA is currently funding 4 research and development projects that range from an examination of the role of sketchbooks in visual research to the use of on-line visual research databases.

Around 60 people participated in the 2006 Annual Forum, INTERSECTIONS that looked at the variety of policies and initiatives aimed at shaping the future of art, design and media education. This year we will be offering around 100 places and in response to the feedback on last year, will hold discussion running in both morning and afternoon sessions

Practitioners from education and industry will propose themes and chair discussions groups. The aim is for each group to deliver a framework for a paper, covering the key issues and scope of their discussion. Each group will be allocated a ‘reporter’ who will record the discussions and work with the chair and the ADM-HEA to draft a paper. The collected papers will be published by the ADM-HEA later in the year.

Confirmed chairs are:

Professor David Crow, Professor of Visual Communication at Manchester Metropolitan University
Trevor Hearing, Lecturer in Media at the Bournemouth Media School
Dr Simon Ofield, Dean of Art, Design and Architecture, Kingston University
John Piper, Research Scientist - User Research & HMI - Photographic Systems
Alistair McNaught, Senior Advisor, TechDis
Professor Anita Taylor, Acting Head of Wimbledon School of Art
